What is PCIT?

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a short, proven treatment for young children’s behavior problems and their caregivers. It builds the parent-child bond and teaches practical skills through live coaching during real interactions.

PCIT has two parts:

  • Increasing positive interaction

  • Using consistent, predictable discipline for misbehavior.

It’s hands-on and goal-oriented, reduces disruptive behavior, improves emotional regulation, and boosts caregiver confidence.

PCIT is for families who…

  • Have a child age 2-7 years old who exhibits behaviors such as

    • Throwing tantrums when small problem occur

    • Struggling to follow rules and routines

    • Are aggressive toward others when they do not get their way

    • Have difficulty controlling their impulses or focusing their attention

  • Have caregivers who…

    • Feel like they have tried everything but nothing is working

    • Desire a relationship with their child that isn’t walking on eggshells

    • Want practical, realistic tools they can use to reconnect with their child to repair their relationship

    • Can commit to weekly coaching sessions and practice between sessions.
